IS THERE AN OFFICE OF THE REVEREND IN THE FIVE-FOLD BIBLE MINISTRY?

According to Ephesians 4:11, there is no mention of the office of the reverend. It is used as a title for those in the five-fold ministry today. Though, the church has a divided opinion about this issue but as I’ve always said, we all won’t agree on the same thing till Jesus comes, we should only ensure that we live a Christ-like life which qualifies us for the kingdom.

The word ‘reverend’ can be found only once in the scripture, Psalm 111:9, some believe God was referred to as Reverend here and no one should be called a reverend but that’s not the truth. According to the Hebrew translation, that portion is only trying to say that God’s name is to be revered, the Psalmist wasn’t trying to give God a title there.

1 Timothy 5:17 enjoined us to give double honor to those that lead the affairs of the church especially those that preach and teach. So as a mark of honor, I see nothing wrong in calling an ordained minister a reverend. What I advocate for is that ministers of the gospel shouldn’t run after title but impact. There is no entitlement in titles, there’s only entitlement in impact.
